Everything has been put in place for the first African Esports Championships, Southern Africa region, to be staged in Lilongwe, Malawi, this December, as announced by the Global Esports Federation. This Marquee event will involve worldwide celebrated titles such as Street Fighter V and eFootball™ 2023, the Champion Edition. And they will be set up together with the Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games from December 2-11, 2022.
Stanley Mutoya, CEO of the AUSC Region 5, said:
“Esports is the tomorrow, and we are excited to reveal it to youths in the AUSC Region 5. This was simple as the Council of regional ministers gladly agreed to staging it in Malawi this year to show, in view of taking it to the next level in Mozambique in 2024 as a full medal sport.”
“Partnering with the visionary leadership at AUSC Region 5 to bring the Global Esports Federation’s marquee event to Southern Africa is exciting and satisfactory. Our community is enthusiastic about having athletes display their skills and talents as they represent their regions at this global event.” – Chris Chan, President of the GEF.
The region of Southern Africa will be amplified more with the flagship GEFcon in conjunction with worldwide thought leaders, idea creators and stakeholders from esports and adjoining industries sharing ideas with Esports future. The GEF and the AUSC Region 5 will work together to see the success of this great event.
