The future of the African gaming industry is very bright and auspicious. It is no surprise that foreign investors are massively tossing their hats in the ring to get a piece of the action. Betfred is one of the major foreign investors that taps into the young but fertile African gaming industry.
The British bookmarker has invested massively in the South African betting scene as it acquires a major stake in LottoStars. However, the company isn’t new to South Africa’s gaming industry as it has previously bought Betting World and Sepels Sportsbet. It currently operates 53 shops and an online business in South Africa.
After acquiring Betting World, Betfred’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), Phil Siers said:
Betfred is excited about the future of Betting World and intends to make a major investment in Africa over the coming years.” From the remark above, it is safe to say the company putting it’s money where its mouth as it invests in LottoStar. LottoStar is the third massive investment by Betfred and there’s still room for more in the booming gaming industry.
Phil Siers, Betfred’s CCO
Joanne Whittaker, Betfred’s CEO, touched on this, commenting:
We are delighted to partner with such a fast-growing company in South Africa, the business will not only complement our activity in South Africa but our international businesses in the United States and Europe. We look forward to working closely with the LottoStar team to support the continued growth of the business providing world-class games and services to the online betting market in South Africa.
Joanne Whittaker, Betfred’s CEO
Tasoulla Hadjigeorgiou, LottoStar’s Founder and CEO, commented:

We are confident that this partnership will broaden our offering and provide our customers with the highest quality services. LottoStar is well recognized in South Africa because of its support for local communities and “high profile marketing campaigns.” The company runs both live games and fixed odds numbers on its platform.
