The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) is aimed at championing integrity and transparency for the licensed betting industry. In 2021, IBIA exposed 236 illegal betting activities to the authorities concerned. 69 illegal betting activities were reported in the fourth quarter while 65 were reported in the third quarter.
There’s a 13% reduction in the number of activities as opposed to 2020 when 270 cases were exposed. A total of 49 countries and 14 sports were involved in the 2021 report. Just like previous years, tennis and football lead the pack for illegal betting online and offline.
Tennis recorded 80 illegal betting activities while football, it’s leading partner, recorded 66. The 12 other sports accounted for 90. Meanwhile, Europe recorded exactly half of these activities while the other continents accounted for the other half.
IBIA investigates illegal betting activities reported by operators, after investigation, these activities are brought to the attention of relevant authorities. IBIA’s monitoring and alert platform is a highly effective tool that detects and exposes illegal betting activities.
Indeed the dangers of betting corruption remain, and as the optimum Betting Market report published last year highlighted, that equates to $25m per annum in lost revenue for the regulated betting sector globally.
